Marlin A. “Mak” Knowles, Jr. serves as HWC Engineering's vice president of operations and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Indiana. He brings to HWC Engineering more than 20 years of experience and leadership in the architecture and engineering industry.
Mak’s passion for the industry is centered around relationships, including those within the firm and with clients and owners. Mak enjoys bringing people together to accomplish infrastructure projects that improve the communities in which we live.

Mak's extensive background includes several years of construction experience and management of multiple business units and corporate sales. Prior to becoming an owner at HWC, Mak was a partner and vice president for a regional architecture and engineering firm. He has served in a variety of leadership positions over 20 years, including roles in business development, construction inspection and federal and forensic investigations.
Mak actively serves in several leadership roles within his industry and community. He currently serves on the Hamilton County Extension Board and the IUPUI Construction Engineering Management Technology Industrial Advisory Board. Mak also serves on the Civil Advisory Board at Trine University, where he earned his degree in civil engineering. He is a past president of the Indiana chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC Indiana).
