DELPHI, IN – The city of Delphi was designated as a 2012 Stellar Community and has since generated a “tremendous amount of interest,” says Mayor Randy Strasser. HWC partnered with the city on the Opera House, streetscapes, facades, the Gateway Trail and downtown apartment efforts as well as providing schedule and budget control.
Delphi was in the National spotlight October 6th, 2015 when the Council of State Community Development Agencies (COSCDA) held an event which HWC helped sponsor. Government agencies from across the country visited Delphi to see how the Stellar Communities Program has helped the city. Visitors took a tour of the Opera House, looked at the building facades and other area improvements downtown to show the impact of the Stellar Communities Program.
The Delphi Opera House was a key piece of the Stellar pitch and as it celebrates it celebrated its Grand Re-Opening this month after being closed for nearly a century. The Opera House has undertaken more than $4.3 million in expansion and renovations nearly doubling its size. In addition to the investment in the Opera House, approximately $8 million has been pumped into the Canal Commons housing project, adding with other work Mayor Strasser says combined for a total of $25 million. Overall, Strasser says the results of the program have far exceeded initial goals.
