Posted on: No Comments

The weather is getting chilly, but there’s still time to get outside and hit the trails before winter (and the snow) comes.

HWC has worked with Indiana communities on a variety of trail projects, from downtown trails to resort trails to riverfront trails. Each trail type includes features that enhance community character and connectivity.

Keep reading to learn more about some of the trail projects HWC has completed.

DOWNTOWN TRAIL HIGHLIGHT
Gateway Trail – Delphi, IN

HWC worked with Delphi, Indiana to complete the Gateway Trail Project. The project included installation of a multi-use trail with period street lighting, handicap-accessible ramps, brick paver accents, site furnishings, wayfinding and landscape areas. The trail created critical connections amongst schools, historic neighborhoods and other points of interest in the community.

PARK TRAIL HIGHLIGHT
Fall Creek Trail Extension – Indianapolis, IN

HWC Engineering designed the Fall Creek Trail Extension Project in Indianapolis. The shared-use path runs from Skiles Test Park to Fort Benjamin Harrison Park. The 10-foot-wide path winds along the scenic Fall Creek corridor and includes portions of trail within the floodway, allowing trail users to experience the flowing creek waters.

RESORT TRAIL HIGHLIGHT
Ferguson Trail – French Lick, IN

The Ferguson Trail in French Lick connects the French Lick Hotel and West Baden Springs Hotel. The Ferguson Trail follows the scenic back roads between the hotels and overlooks the valley golf course.

RAIL TO TRAIL HIGHLIGHT
Muscatatuck Trail – North Vernon, IN

HWC worked with North Vernon, Indiana to complete the Muscatatuck Trail Project. The multi-use asphalt trail connects the Muscatatuck County Park to downtown North Vernon. The trail begins in North Vernon and extends through several neighborhoods along a former railroad right-of-way before ultimately connecting to the Muscatatuck County Park.

RIVERFRONT TRAIL HIGHLIGHT
Kitselman Trail – Muncie, IN

HWC is leading the design of the Kitselman Trail Project in Muncie, IN. The project will revitalize a brownfield site and surrounding area to connect the Cardinal Greenway and the White River Greenway with a pedestrian bridge over the White River.
