HWC Sustainable Design Concept for Lift Station Selected by City “Sustainability” is more than a buzz word at HWC, it is a core business philosophy as exemplified by the City of Indianapolis’ recent selection of HWC’s design approach for its Lift Station 507 Upgrade Project. HWC proposed integrating a green roof into the renovation of this regional lift station on Indianapolis near northside adjacent to the Riviera Club. In addition to the green roof design concept, HWC recommended that an elevated overlook with native landscaping be incorporated into the lift station’s renovation so the lift station could not only be more in keeping with the multimodal characteristics of the Central Canal but also serve as a year round educational laboratory on behalf of green roofs in Indianapolis. "I want to encourage people to consider green roofs as a normal way of doing business," said Mayor Greg Ballard. Mayor Ballard also said "green roofs generally last longer and make a building more aesthetically pleasing." For more information on this project, read the Indy Star.com article of October 18, 2008. |
