New Castle Aquatic Center at Baker Park and the Walter Chambers Pool House Grand Opening A ceremony was held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Aquatic Center at Baker Park and the Walter Chambers Pool House located in New Castle, Indiana to celebrate the reopening of this long time community landmark in Henry County. The original pool and stone bath house was constructed in 1936 and at that time was considered to be one of the most modern facilities in Indiana. After 69 years of use and generating countless fond memories, the old Baker Park Pool was showing advanced signs of deterioration and had to be declared unsafe in 2005 and closed. The Aquatic Center at Baker Park and the Walter Chambers Pool House project involved the renovation of the historic stone bath house and the development of an aquatic center which includes a beach entry pool area with spray toys, a 25-meter lap swim area, a splash down area for a future water slide and a wet deck area with water toys.

French Lick Town Center Dedication A dedication ceremony was held on Saturday, December 29,2007 at the French Lick Town Green on Main Street to earmark the completion of the first phase of the French Lick Town Center development project. The French Lick Town Center project includes the revitalization of over 14 acres of underutilized land between the historic French Lick downtown and the French Lick Resort Casino. Its purpose is to encourage economic development of the community by connecting the Resort to the historic downtown. Significant to the Town Center project is the creation of a visible landmark within a newly acquired 9-acre downtown area of property located directly across from the French Lick Resort Casino and just north of the historic downtown. This is intended to give the French Lick Town Center a sense of place and make the downtown a destination. The French Lick Town Green will serve as a gathering place for residents and visitors and includes landscaped areas, seating, and a unique steel gazebo structure and spray fountain water feature. Additionally, the Town Green will be the site of future community festivals and celebrations - embraced by the architecture and places that have contributed to its identity including the historic downtown, renovated historic hotels, new casino, and new mixed use development. The architecture of the buildings fronting the Town Green and Jack Carnes Way further contribute to the quality and historic character of the Town Center. Additionally, the strategic location and layout organizes proposed development capitalizing even more on the Town’s historic assets and new investment.
