Stormwater Drainage Improvements – Farmersburg, Indiana

This project entailed improving stormwater drainage in the Town of Farmersbug, located along US 41 in Sullivan County, in West Central Indiana. HWC updated a previously completed stormwater drainage master plan for the community, which included over $2.5 million in stormwater handling improvements. The study phase services also included modeling of the drainage basins to verify the scoping assumptions in the study report. At the conclusion of the report, given the available DR funding available through IOCRA, HWC assisted the Town with applying for and securing a $1 million grant to construct the first phase of the storm water improvements. During the study phase, the Town implemented a stormwater utility, which was used to fund the remainder of the recommendations included in the plan.

Phase I project highlights:
  • Constructed in 2010
  • Project cost – $1.0 million
  • 12” – 36” storm sewers and inlets in the north central area of the Town
  • 12” – 18” storm sewers east of the rail road tracks to convey flow to the new system west of the tracks
  • Rehabilitation of an existing stormwater tunnel, which
  • Ditch reconstruction
  • Curb/sidewalk installation
