Because of the Stellar Communities designation, the City of Princeton was able to improve the streetscape around all four sides of the courthouse square in one project. The HWC design team selected lighting, hardscape materials, and site furnishings that would best compliment the historic courthouse and surrounding facades. Mini plazas with seating were developed within new bumpouts and the addition of street trees and landscaping provides a buffer between the pedestrian spaces and vehicular areas.

HWC worked with Pulte Group to provide site engineering and survey services for the 18-unit residential townhome project in the Village of WestClay in Carmel, Indiana. 

Development components include:

    • Four townhome buildings
    • Alley and sidewalk design
    • Extensions of public infrastructure for storm and sanitary sewers and water mains
    • Landscape plans
    • Construction staking

The project provides low maintenance housing for the walkable community in west Carmel with nearby shops, businesses, and schools.

Unified Development Ordinance

With a Zoning Ordinance approaching 34 years of use, the City of Batesville recognized the need for updated development and design standards. With the strong support of Batesville Main Street, a primary goal of the City of Batesville’s Unified Development Ordinance update was to preserve the unique character of downtown Batesville. To accomplish this goal, a new downtown district was created that included development standards reflecting the existing development patterns. Furthermore, the Walnut Street Corridor Overlay was developed to conserve the character of the City’s primary corridor connecting downtown Batesville to I-74. These pieces better prepare the City to maintain and expand on the world-class charm found only in Batesville.

Unified Development Ordinance

Whitestown has been the fastest growing community in the State of Indiana.

HWC has led key planning initiatives to help them manage that growth, including updates to their comprehensive plan, economic development plan, thoroughfare plan, and downtown (Legacy Core) plan.

The Town’s key existing ordinances were not delivering the development product that they desired. To update the ordinances, HWC and Civic Blueprint partnered on the preparation of a new Unified Development Ordinance. The updated ordinance first focused on aligning comprehensive plan goals with development regulations. Next, the ordinances were updated to use plain English so that they were clear, direct, and easy to use. Graphics were added to further enhance clarity.

Quality of Life Plan

The Sullivan Quality of Life Plan represents the energy and emphasis that the City of Sullivan has put into making the city a better place to live, work, and play and is intended to help guide future investment.  HWC prepared the plan to outline and detail seven key projects in the city, including a multi-use trail system, wayfinding signage, public art, park spaces, urban block redevelopment, and neighborhood revitalization.
