Kitselman Trail and Trailhead Park

The Kitselman Trailhead is a complex, multi-phased project that will connect the Cardinal Greenway Trail with the White River Trail while providing a gateway park for Muncie’s east side. HWC had the opportunity to collaborate with Flatland Resources and Land Collective on this project. Two phases have been constructed—a pedestrian bridge and the east side of the trailhead park–and the third is currently under design. This project was funded by INDOT and the City of Muncie.

City of Winchester Gateway

The SR 32 and US 27 interchange evolved into a location for a community gateway as city development spread and traffic volumes increased. The HWC team designed a linear landscape along the corridor with three custom metal monument signs that are lit at night with solar power. Acting as a landmark along the corridor, the gateway now draws potential visitors off the highway toward Winchester’s downtown while simultaneously creating a sense of community pride for residents and local business owners.

White River Canal District Plaza

This plaza was the first step in the establishment of a development district along the White River in downtown Muncie. Its purpose was to provide a public space for the adjacent residents of a new downtown apartment building that could be programmed with events and food trucks. The city engaged GRT Glass Design to install an interactive sculpture as a central focal point. Trail segments radiating from the plaza will connect the existing canal walkway to the White River Trail.

French Lick Town Center

HWC collaborated with Storrow Kinsella Associates on the implementation of a downtown revitalization master plan for the City of French Lick. Projects included a new town park with water feature, event lawn and signature trellis feature, streetscape along several corridors, monumental signage, landscaping, lighting, wayfinding, several trail sections, and a roundabout. The combination of these projects transformed the area, better serving residents and local businesses while integrating the adjacent resort with the downtown district.
