King Street Corridor

The King Street corridor provides an impactful gateway statement into Franklin. Main project elements include entry towers with vertical storyboards made of color-changing glass, a planted boulevard, trail amenities with nodes reflecting community history, and custom shade structures. All elements are connected by strategic lighting and landscaping. Over time, the mature landscape will establish a dynamic linear park experience. HWC lead a talented team of designers and fabricators including Cornerstone, Landtech, Circle Design Group, Smock-Fansler, and GRT Glass Design to implement this transformative project.

US 50 HMA Overlay, INDOT Seymour District

HWC was assigned to provide design services for the US 50 HMA Overlay project under the INDOT On-Call contract in the Seymour District. HWC extended the functional life of the asphalt overlay by addressing cracks at joint deterioration and longitudinal cracks by construction of partial and full-depth patching of the underlying concrete pavement and application of a 2” mill/fill of the asphalt surface.

Additionally, HWC brought 90 curb ramps to current ADA standards, as well as updated the nine existing traffic signals to have APS devices installed where applicable. This project included two DES numbers, and HWC worked with the District under time constraints to deliver both projects. The project was completed in 2023.

Project let in April 2018 at a cost of $1,300,000, which was 5% below the engineer’s estimate.
