As a result of several transportation projects proposed in the county and region, the City of Franklin sought to capitalize on these opportunities by updating its thoroughfare plan. The city hired HWC to facilitate this planning process which centered on detailed traffic modeling based on various thoroughfare network and land use scenarios. It also identified flexible design standards to effectively implement complete streets policies. The plan ultimately led to development of the Interstate 65 gateway along the King Street corridor which has attracted new private investment in this district.

As one of the fastest growing counties in the state, Hendricks County recognized the need to update their thoroughfare plan to proactively stay ahead of growth and development.  The updated plan focused on creating additional north-south and east-west connectivity through the county. Also critical to the success of the plan was strategic planning for an additional future Interstate 70 interchange in the county.

Recognizing the need to improve the level of service for roadways in the county, Montgomery County brought in HWC to lead the update of their thoroughfare plan. Key outcomes from the plan included roadway upgrades to support economic development, as well as prioritized rural roadway corridors intended to upgrade road service to rural communities in the county.

Since Aurora’s downtown is located within a floodplain, this small community along the Ohio River was ineligible for a number of state or federal grants. As a result, the city turned to HWC to develop strategies to revitalize the riverfront and adjacent downtown without relying on grant funding.  HWC created the Riverfront Vision Plan which focused on “lighter, quicker and cheaper” short-term strategies highlighting the unique features of downtown Aurora.  The plan also included mid-term goals for new riverfront public spaces to attract residents downtown.

Facing a distinct decline in the number of professionals living in the community and an aging population, the City of Crawfordsville needed to focus on its quality of life amenities to reverse these trends. Community leaders hired HWC to facilitate planning efforts to prepare a Stellar Communities Strategic Investment Plan. HWC led the planning and management process to identify community projects and associated cost estimates, as well as project schedules. This planning effort resulted in a wide range of quality-of-life investments totaling approximately $16.0 million. Projects included the Fusion 54 Business Incubator, new multi-use trails, homeowner repair program, and the adaptive reuse of the Ben-Hur Building.
