Muscatatuck Trail

HWC provided design and construction inspection services for this project. As one component of the City’s $15 million Stellar Communities Pilot Program, this trail connects the Muscatatuck County Park to downtown North Vernon via an abandoned rail line. Elements included in this project were an asphalt paved trail and parking lot, bollards at adjacent roads and driveways, themed mile markers, trail lighting, concrete rest areas including benches, and trailheads at the beginning and end of the project including trail maps and signage. This trail connection was vital to providing safe pedestrian traffic for North Vernon’s residents from the County Park into the downtown area. The County Park has existing mountain biking and hiking trails, which serve as a natural connection to this multiuse trail. INDOT federal aid funds were utilized.

Indianapolis, IN

Fall Creek Trail Extension

HWC designed the Fall Creek Trail Extension project. The trail is a shared-use path running from Skiles Test Park to Fort Benjamin Harrison Park in Indianapolis. The 10’-wide path winds along the scenic Fall Creek corridor and includes portions of the trail within the floodway, allowing trail users to experience the flowing waters of the creek.

Work included construction of a sidewalk across the Shafter Road Bridge, which provided a critical connection to Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park. Project design included coordination with community partners, including the Boy Scouts of America Crossroads Council, the Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
